Add a Verified Trust Badge to Your Shopify Store

Your Shopify store is a good home for the Entruv badge, because the footer shows on every page and the crawler only needs to find it once. You do not need an app or a developer. A Custom Liquid block in the theme editor holds the one line of HTML, and it survives theme updates. This guide walks through the footer setup, then the checks that most often fail on Shopify: password pages, cached pages and a block placed in the wrong area.

RequirementYou need a Shopify store with a public storefront and permission to edit your theme in the Online Store area.

  1. Step 1

Duplicate your theme and open the footer

In your Shopify admin, look for Online Store, then Themes. Find your live theme, open the three dot menu and choose Duplicate. Work on the copy so a mistake never reaches customers. Press Customize on the copy, scroll the left panel to the Footer section and click it. The footer is the best place because every page loads it, and a visible badge there is easy for visitors and for our crawler to find. Menu names can differ slightly between themes, so look for the closest match.

  2. Step 2

Add a Custom Liquid block and paste the badge

Inside the Footer section, press Add block and look for Custom Liquid. Some themes call it Liquid or Custom Liquid. Paste this line into it: <a href="https://entruv.com/p/YOUR-SLUG" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img src="https://entruv.com/api/badge/YOUR-SLUG.svg" alt="Listed on Entruv" height="44" style="height:44px;width:auto;max-width:100%" /></a> Do not retype it. Copy the ready made version from your Entruv owner panel, which already has your real slug. Save. If your footer has no such block, add a Custom Liquid section to the template, or ask a developer to add the line to sections/footer.liquid.

  3. Step 3

    Publish, then verify your domain

Check the preview, then publish the duplicated theme, or save your edits if you worked on the live one. Open your Entruv private link and press Verify Domain & Publish. Success looks like a confirmation on the owner panel and a public record page at your Entruv address that no longer returns 404. If it fails, the message names the reason. Work through the problems below, then press the button again.

The one line you paste

<a href="https://entruv.com/p/YOUR-SLUG" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img src="https://entruv.com/api/badge/YOUR-SLUG.svg" alt="Listed on Entruv" height="44" style="height:44px;width:auto;max-width:100%" /></a>

Copy the ready made version from your owner panel. It already has your real address in place of YOUR-SLUG.

If the check fails on Shopify

  • Password protected stores cannot be read. A store behind a password page is not public, so the crawler only sees the password form. Turn the password off, or finish verification once the storefront is open to everyone.
  • A cached storefront can serve the old page for a short while after you publish. Reload in a private window, wait a few minutes and try the check again.
  • Where the block lands depends on your theme. Some themes place a block inside a footer column, others in the lower footer area. Either works, as long as the badge is visible and not inside a collapsed menu.
  • Do not wrap the badge in a section hidden with theme settings or display none styles. Hidden links are rejected, so keep it visible on the page.
  • If you pasted the snippet into a page or blog post instead of the footer, it only appears on that one page. Verify the home page address you gave Entruv, or move the badge to the footer.

Why Custom Liquid beats editing theme files

You can paste the badge straight into sections/footer.liquid, and it will work. The catch is upkeep. When your theme publisher ships an update, a hand edited file can be overwritten or can block the update from applying cleanly. A Custom Liquid block is stored as a setting of your theme, so the theme code stays untouched. Your developer, if you have one, can still read and review it in the editor without digging through files.

That also makes the change easy to reverse. Delete the block and the badge is gone, with no leftover code. Duplicating the theme first gives you a second safety net, because you can compare the two copies if anything looks different. Once the live page looks right and verification passes, you can delete the extra copy to keep your theme list tidy.

What the crawler actually reads on a store

Our crawler loads your page over HTTPS and reads the HTML your server sends. It does not run JavaScript. Most Shopify themes render the footer on the server, so a Custom Liquid block shows up in that first response, which is exactly what we need. It looks for an anchor to your Entruv page that contains the badge image, and it rejects hidden links, noindex areas and links marked nofollow.

To check yourself, open your storefront, right click and choose View page source. Search for entruv.com. If you see your anchor and image there, the crawler can see them too. If you only find it in the browser inspector, something is adding it after load, and the check will fail. Fix that first, because no amount of retrying will change what the server sends.

Questions

Do I need a paid Shopify plan or an app?

No app is needed. You only need access to edit your theme. The badge is one line of HTML that goes into a Custom Liquid block.

Will the badge survive a theme update?

A Custom Liquid block is a theme setting, so it normally carries over. After any update, look at your footer to confirm the badge is still there.

Can I verify while my store is still password protected?

No. The crawler can only read public pages, and a password page hides your footer. Open the storefront first, then press Verify Domain & Publish.

What happens if I pay for the gold badge later?

Nothing to change in Shopify. The same snippet turns into the gold badge by itself after the one time $39 payment. The payment is final.
